Find the passage, not just the file.

Memni searches the documents already on your computer. Start with the detail in your head, compare the strongest matches, and open the right passage in context.

From clue to source

Search from the clue in your head.

Memni is for the moment when you know a document exists but cannot remember its filename, folder, or exact wording.

  1. Start with the part you remember

Search a phrase, a name, a number, or the meaning of a passage. You do not need the filename or a perfect query.

  2. Include the paper you already scanned

Local OCR makes image-only PDFs and common image files searchable beside ordinary PDFs, Office files, saved email files, web pages, Markdown, and text, in English and Finnish.

  3. Search inside recordings

Add the local transcription runtime, pick a meeting recording or voice memo, and its transcript searches like any other document. Everything runs on your device.

  4. See why a result matched

Memni shows the matching passage in context, so you can check the result before reopening files one by one.

  5. Keep useful views close at hand

Narrow with file type, date, folders, tags, and your own metadata. Save a search when you know you will need it again.

Hard searches, solved

Paper you scanned. Questions you half remember.

Memni search for ‘heat pump serial number’ ranking a scanned warranty certificate first, with the serial number highlighted in text read from the image-only scan.
The serial number existed only on paper. This warranty certificate is an image-only scan. Searching “heat pump serial number” still finds it, because Memni reads the text inside the scan on your device.Current development-build capture using a fictional household library.Open full screenshot
The policy never says “washing machine”.Ask the question the way you would say it. The escape-of-water clause still comes up, matched by meaning rather than by repeating your words.Current development-build capture using a fictional household library.Open full screenshot

Beyond English

Your paperwork doesn’t stick to one language.

Add the Finnish text recognition pack in Settings, and scanned Finnish paperwork becomes as searchable as everything else. The Multilingual and Multilingual+ search models are built for libraries that are not purely English.

Memni search for ‘astianpesukone sarjanumero’ ranking a scanned Finnish warranty certificate first, with the matching Finnish words highlighted in text read from the image-only scan.
The warranty is a scan, and it is in Finnish.Searching “astianpesukone sarjanumero” finds it, because Memni read the scanned certificate on your device, Finnish diacritics included.Current development-build capture using a fictional household library.Open full screenshot

In the first release

Arriving with the paid release.

Two additions coming in the first paid version.

Your AI tools can ask your library

Memni will ship an MCP server, so an assistant you already use can search your library and read the matching passages with your permission. The assistant receives search results; your library stays on your machine.

Libraries that lock

Database encryption with a passphrase you choose. A locked library, and every file copied into it, cannot be opened without the passphrase; files kept in your existing folders keep their existing protections.

Local by default

Your library stays on your computer.

Document extraction, OCR, indexing, and search run locally. Your documents never leave your computer to activate or use Memni. Files in third-party synced folders remain subject to that provider’s behavior and privacy terms.
