Product guide

Memni is a desktop app for finding information across PDFs, scans, Office files, saved email files, Markdown, plain-text notes, and other documents on your computer.

Memni is in private development. A Windows preview is planned first; macOS and Linux are later. There is no public installer or announced release date.

Current builds can:

  • create a library whose database and search indexes stay on the computer;
  • index PDFs, modern Office documents, saved email files, HTML, Markdown, plain text, and supported image files from a folder;
  • extract text and run local OCR on supported scanned PDFs and images;
  • combine full-text matching with on-device meaning-based search;
  • show the matching passage beside the result list;
  • organize documents with folders, tags, custom metadata, and saved searches.
  1. Add a folder containing the documents you already use.
  2. Search a phrase, name, number, or detail you remember.
  3. Narrow broad results with a phrase, tag, file type, date, or another filter.
  4. Open a result to see the matching text in context.
  5. Continue in Memni’s reader or open the original file.

Extraction quality varies by format and file. The import activity view identifies files that need attention.
