Privacy and Your Files

Memni reads and searches your documents on your computer. This page describes the versions currently being tested privately; the public release will have its own privacy notice. The paid release will use a sign-in for licensing, but that sign-in does not include your documents or search history.

Memni keeps the following with the local library or in application-managed local storage:

  • document details and text read from the file;
  • text read from supported scans and images;
  • the local data Memni needs to search exact words and related meaning;
  • tags, your own fields, and saved searches;
  • generated previews and other working data when the library’s security mode allows them.

Derived data can be as sensitive as the original file. Protect the computer and backups that hold the library, not only the source document folder.

Local-first does not mean the computer can never use a network.

  • A file in OneDrive or another synced folder may be online-only. Its provider may download it before Memni can read it, under that provider’s terms.

Memni does not upload document contents or search queries to a Memni-hosted search service. Files in third-party synced folders remain subject to that provider’s behavior and privacy terms.

For website and notification-list data, see the Privacy Policy.
